The photoreal 2D matte painting captures the two personalities of Atlanta’s Fox Theatre using a day-to-night technique. A heavy combination of Lightroom and Photoshop cleans up the busy day plate, with most of the elements painted from scratch using custom brushes, such as the sky. Turning to night, the day plate is tinted, and light is carefully painted back in using an assortment of masks and adjustment layers. Lights are enhanced with a combination of lens flares and adjustment layers. Additional spill light, contact shadows, and light tinting creates the glowing, lively night atmosphere.
